Canon Catherine Away from the Parish
Canon Catherine is out of the parish from Oct 17-21 inclusive. She is an assessor at the Advisory Committee on Postulants for Ordination (ACPO) Conference in Toronto this weekend. This is a residential gathering for those who have discerned a call to priestly ministry. Please pray for all the clerical and lay assessors, and the
candidates who are putting themselves forward for this discernment process. In case of a pastoral emergency, please contact the Rev’d Canon Jim Roberts through the parish office at (613) 283-1261.

Volunteers at Chimo Breakfast Program
There is a need for volunteers at Chimo Elementary School on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:30am – 10:00am. If you can spare some time to serve breakfast on one or more of these days please contact Angie Abbass by phone (613) 283-1761 or by email at [email protected]
Parking Lot Changes
In order to facilitate parking and accessibility please note that there are now only two parking spots in front of the ramp for those with disability parking permits. Please do not try to park three vehicles in that area as there needs to be more space around the vehicles. Also, there is a “no parking” sign to the south of the lower entrance. This is now a “drop-off/pick-up” zone so that people with limited mobility can be dropped off and picked up close to the ramp. Thank you for your consideration.
St. John’s is going to produce its own photo directory this year. It will include pictures of parishioners with their names as well as pictures of St. John’s gathering in worship, service and fellowship. If you would like to pose for an informal picture, in or around the church, contact Laura Porter at [email protected] If you have any questions regarding this project, contact Dan Willis at [email protected]
Salvation Army Kettle Drive
Once again, the Salvation Army will have annual Christmas Kettles in local stores. See the dates and locations on the bulletin board outside the main office in the hall. If you are able to volunteer for a shift, please contact the Smiths Falls Kettle Coordinator Mary-Lynn Kelford at (613) 283-3563 or [email protected]
Coffee Hour: Fellowship AND Environmental Sustainability A huge THANK YOU to all those who helped make tea, iced tea/lemonade and yummy treats for Sunday mornings after the 10am service this summer. Our coffee hour is filled with much fellowship, love, laughter and all round great compassion for each other. And now that coffee is back on the menu, we are switching to fair trade coffee for our coffee hour following the 10am Sunday service. This is just one effort towards our stewardship of creation: better trading conditions and prices for coffee bean farmers; support for sustainable environmental farming practices; no child or forced labour. Last June we had a taste test and Equator Coffee “Freakin’ Good Coffee”, roasted in Almonte, won. To help offset the cost (~$60.00/5lb bag) we will use the donations from our recycle/green table now located outside the main office. So when we reuse/recycle at our “green” table we are helping our environment by not throwing everything into the landfill plus we contribute to environmental sustainable and fair trade. Win-Win!
