On August 30 St. John’s moved to the Yellow Stage of our diocesan In This Together pandemic plan. Sunday service times remain at 8am & 10am and both services continue to be Holy Eucharist from page 185 of the BAS. Capacity limits are still in effect in order to ensure physical distancing between households. Some new things are possible, and other things remain the same.
-It is better to pre-register. If you call or e-mail the parish office, letting us know which service you would like to attend, we can be sure to have a spot for you. It also makes collecting contact tracing information quicker and more efficient.
-Please continue to enter via the parish hall entrance at George St. If the steps are a barrier, then you may enter via the ramp at the back parking lot. It is helpful if you tell us if you need the ramp entrance when you register. A reminder to please leave the back parking lot for those who need access to the ramp and rear door, and for the volunteer greeters. When people come in the back entrance who have not indicated they are coming that way, it is a bit challenging for the greeter in the Canterbury room.
-Masks must be worn in the building.
-Congregational singing resumes and the service books will be back in the pews.
-Social hour will be permitted indoors following the service with a maximum of 25 people; we will continue to have fellowship outdoors whenever weather permits as outdoors is safer than indoors.
-At this time, St. John’s will not be introducing the Common Cup to the Eucharist. While permitted under this stage, we are choosing to wait as we get more accustomed to an easing of restrictions.
-Sunday School will continue to be offered virtually for the first few weeks, until adaptations are in place to safely welcome children back to in-person groups. A maximum of 10 children will be permitted in any “class”.
-Not ready to come back into the building yet? That’s okay. Livestreaming of the service will be offered on YouTube & Facebook starting at 8am (Note: if we are having technical difficulties, please be patient. We’ll get the service posted asap.) Also, the service is broadcast the following Sunday at 8am & 1pm on YourTV Cogeco Cable.
While it is best to register prior to noon on Fridays, do feel free to call in after the deadline. After office hours, it is best to call and leave a message rather than e-mail as the parish e-mail is not monitored outside of office hours. We’ll do everything we can to accommodate you. But, please understand that if you do not pre-register by noon on Fridays, there is no guarantee that there will be a spot on Sunday.
Holy Communion from the Book of Common Prayer is offered Wednesdays at 10am. You do not need to pre-register for this service. Enter via the parish hall or the door from the parking lot. Compline continues to be live streamed on Facebook at 9pm each evening.
FUNERAL SERVICE FOR IRENE ANDERSON
A funeral liturgy in thanksgiving for the life of Irene Anderson will be held at St. John’s at 11am on Friday, September 10. Irene died in the autumn of 2020 at her long term care residence in Ottawa. Irene’s daughter Elizabeth warmly invites friends and parishioners to the service. MURRAY WATSON PRESENTATION: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 7pm
Drama on the Mountain in Moriah: The Shared Story of Abraham, Isaac and Ishmael. Dr. Murray Watson returns with a follow up to his June 9 presentation and shares Christian and Jewish interpretations and historical commentary on the story of the near sacrifice of Isaac in Genesis 22. He will also take a quick dip in Islam’s take on the story. This presentation will be offered via ZOOM. Pre-registration is required by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org Murray is a Catholic Biblical scholar who has studied in Rome, Jerusalem and Dublin and has worked for many years in the fields of ecumenism and interfaith dialogue. No stranger to St. John’s this will mark Murray’s sixth visit with us in recent years.
