Welcome to St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church!

We are a community of Christians who worship God and seek to serve Christ in others.  We are nourished in the Anglican tradition through scripture, common prayer and sacraments.  We invite you, wherever you find yourself in your journey of faith, to join us on the path.

As a church in the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, and a member of the Anglican Church of Canada, we are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, a family of autonomous, interrelated and interdependent churches comprised of over 85 million people.  The Anglican church draws its strength and nourishes its members from three sources: the Bible, common or communal prayer and the sacraments.  We work to find unity in the midst of our diversity and address pastoral concerns through open dialogue and prayer. The St. John’s family has been worshipping on its current site since 1849. Guided by our baptismal covenant, we are a community of people who strive to follow Jesus in fellowship, prayer and the breaking of bread in the Eucharist. We are called to proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ, seeking to serve Christ in all persons, striving for justice and peace among all people, respecting the dignity of every human being and working to safe guard the earth and the environment.

For generations, the seeking, the doubting, the faithful have gathered at St. John’s to discover or to encounter God.  “The church”, to quote retired Bishop John Baycroft, “is a unique community where wonder, mystery, beauty, quiet, joy, love, suffering, goodness, sin, holiness, and all other human values and experiences are taken seriously.” (Baycroft, John.  The Anglican Way, Toronto: ABC Publishing, 1980)
